Crazy

I found out today that starting Monday, I will be teaching 5th grade. WHAT?! I am excited for the new adventure and to work with those wonderful 5th grade ladies, but scared to death about the curriculum and sad to leave a wonderful group of 3rd grade teachers... I know it will work itself out and I will be fine, just the initial jitters setting in right now! :)

When I went from 1st grade to 3rd, I was so nervous. Those kids were "so BIG". But now, I couldn't imagine teaching anything else but 3rd. Funny that I am going from 3rd to 5th, I feel the same way... those kids are SO BIG!!! I know I will love their independence.

I will let you know how it goes.

Why would they switch you after the year has started??

Our school was under student projection... and third grade had the lowest numbers. So, when a 5th grade teacher volunteered to leave the school, a third grade teacher was needed to fill her spot. Meaning my class will be dissolved into the remaining 3rd grade classrooms.. weird, right?

That is weird! As a parent, I would not want my child changing teachers or being added to make a bigger class size. (especially because I know what it's like to have a child who takes a while to warm up to teachers and friends). You will do great!

They (the county)always take attendance on certain days up until the Tuesday after Labor Day, and if the number of kids is not high enough, they will shuffle. Last year, we had a second grade teacher leave the school. Sometimes the number of kids are so high that the school needs a teacher, so they just sort of trade. It sucks because the kids are so attached and in a routine by this point. It isnt the school's decision, it is the county.

Oh, and yes, there are usually a lot of concerned parents... I hate that for them.
