YAY for Friday!

Hi there!
Today is Friday. I love Fridays. I love the maddness of getting Friday folders packed up and passed out, Spelling Tests graded and knowing that at 3:00ish, I will be through with work for a few days. YAY! :) I will be on my own schedule!

Today is a funny Friday, though---- it is the day that the 5th graders get their "talk". Hum. I don't know what to expect, seeing how it is my first year in 5th. (Third graders never got such "talks".) The weird part for me? I will be the pregnant teacher at the back of the room.... awkward! :) Oh well. At least it is at the end of the day!

David sounded so good on the phone yesterday. He has patience and humor and is doing remarkably well. He said there is a chance (though, a very optimistic one) that he could be discharged today. Originally it was going to be Monday, and he is ok with either day, I think. He will go off of his morphine pump today, start eating actual food, and take oral meds.... YAHOO! I love a step in the right direction, don't you? My dad has been sleeping in the hospital with David at night, not because David needs him; I think it is just a sweet gesture that my wonderful dad can do. My parents will head back to Chicago Sunday, I believe. They seem very positive and we are all so grateful and thankful that this surgery went so smoothly!

On the pregnancy front: I have 29 and a half weeks pregnant... I can't believe on Tuesday I will be 30 weeks along! There is something magical about hitting the 30 week mark for me. Perhaps it is because there will be only 10 more??!

I had a WONDERFUL time at the school shower, I felt soooo lucky and loved. The girls I work with were more than generous and gave Lucas some precious things. We also got enough gift card $$ to buy a mattress for the crib- which is awesome! Getting all of these clothes and gifts for our son makes it more and more real... we get to be parents in about 10-11 weeks! I am SO excited. I can not wait!

Here's hoping you have an incredible Friday and an even better weekend- stay warm! :)

It is a *Starbucks* kinda day...

I am thinking that today (since it started for me at 4:00) will be a Starbucks kinda day. Why does decision to pay the $4 on the way to work instantly make me happier? At any rate... these days instead of my usual venti cup of coffee- with a little milk has been replaced by my pregnancy order. It is the only thing that sounds good to me there... weird, since normally this is what I would NOT pick... I have been getting a decaf nonfat vanilla latte. Que sa ra, sa ra.....

On a much different and MORE IMPORTANT note~ my brother made it through surgery last night with a report that "everything looks great". His original incision was reopened, they removed his illisotomy bag, put together his intestines, and closed him back up, with a smaller incision than last time. My parents said that he came back to the room afterward and was in pain and groggy, but definitely lucid and definitely wanted to be left alone. That is fine, that is better than fine. I am thrilled. I know the doctors will help manage his pain, and I know that they had just poked and proded him for about 3 hours- so being sore was a given, right? I can not wait to get the update today and see how last night went and how he is feeling today, after he had an evening of being still. Apparently, he was given an epideral in additon to anethesia so that he can have it now to help heal the area without feeling it as much. I hope that is working. This surgery marked an end to a very long and very bumpy journey that he had to endure. David did it with such remarkable grace and positivity. I know no one looks forward to putting it behind him more than he does; and this surgery will allow that. He will no longer (once he is recovered) need assistance from others to do remedial tasks and soon will find and rebuild his energy and strength. I look so forward to that and pray that day comes sooner than later. I knew he was an amazing person; but after this, wow. He has the courage that I do not think I have. Thank you for thinking and praying for him. Hopefully his life of an active 28 year old man can return better than he remembers.

Few Different Things...

I am loving the pillow. It is a godsend. Do not let me be misleading, I am not in anyway sleeping MORE; however, I am able to be comfortable when I do sleep.... oh, and it keeps me on my side, which is a feat in itself. I recommend this pillow, and they show you positions to use after the baby is born, too... that will be fun to try! :)

I got the Rhogam shot yesterday. You get that if you are pregnant and have a negative blood type.
I will get it again upon delivery. It will keep my body from fighting off future pregnancies with sweet little babies with positive blood types.

What else? Oh! My sweet grade levels (both 3rd and 5th) are hosting a double baby shower thrown for me and my wonderful teammate, Erin, next week. Erin is due February 9th with a baby girl! So we could both share the excitement, the shower is before she goes on leave... I am looking so forward to it, it will be my first shower.

Our downstairs guest room is ready to move furniture into it! :) Hopefully that will happen soon. I am thrilled. Erik has painted and sanded and swept and make that place look AMAZING! I can not wait for my parents to arrive for their visit in February so they can stay in the newly renovated room! :)

One last thought. My brother goes in for his reversal surgery on Monday. That is less than a week away! I know he is probably nervous and excited all at the same time. This will be the last surgery he needs and then he will be fixed and back to a better working version of his old self! I will not be able to be there because I can not fly at 29 weeks (which is what I will be then); however, I will be the pesky sister on the phone every few hours with my parents asking for updates! He will be great, I have no doubt. Please keep him in your prayers, this has been quite the ordeal and Tuesday should be the end of it.

To sleep, or not to sleep...

Part of being now 28 weeks pregnant for me is not sleeping very much. And definitely not for long periods at a time. That is ok, it is part of it; however, I am not one that can function normally on minimal sleep. That being said, after about 3 weeks of bed hopping from ours to the guest bed and finally ending up on the couch, we ordered a pregnancy pillow. I did plenty of reading up on them and found one that I think will work best for me. It is the Leachco All Nighter- look how cozy:It will allow me to sleep on my back without putting pressure on it and also to stay put on my side! YAY! Anyway, the reason I am rambling about this is that the pillow arrived JUST NOW! UPS just delivered it and I am thrilled! :)

I will let you know how wonderful it is, keep your fingers crossed that I do not see 2am or anything near that until Lucas arrives!

Kick'n

I am sitting here on a Saturday morning, earlier than perhaps I would like. BUT... the cool part? I get to feel my son kicking away. It is a feeling that is so indescribable. It is awesome. He is getting bigger and stronger, so the kicks are obviously becoming stronger and more frequent. I am digging it. The first time Erik felt Lucas kick up a storm was in Chicago on the 29th. How awesome. Those were big kicks. He got to feel them again last night. You should have seen my hubby's big grin when that happened, words can not say how sweet it was!

Gwinnett County closed schools yesterday, for our huge amounts of snow and ice. It was just what the doctor ordered... we spent the day lounging, cleaning, cooking, oh- and eating ice cream. Wonderful.

Today, I have a fun day planned. I get to meet Jayme for breakfast at Mimi's. Yum. I can not wait to see her or Kaleigh and also can not wait to taste a DELICIOUS Mimi's muffin!! :) I think I may get a latte to go with it! Yummmmmmm. Then, I am headed home to make stuffed shells for Erik and the boys. They need something tasty to eat while playing poker for hours on end this evening. Then, while our men are diligently helping Erik get the guest room's baseboards set up, Jeanine, Jessica, and I are headed out to see what type of trouble we can get into. I imagine pedicures will be on the list. Finally, while Erik is hosting poker this evening, I will be celebrating my sweet cousin, Catherine's 30th birthday!! I can not believe it! We are headed to Two Urban Licks. O.M.G. it is sooo good! If you have never been, you. should. go!

To top it all off? It is Kelsey's wedding day! SO excited for her..... I know she will make a stunning bride!!
